BATUMI 2018: WOMEN’S TEAM GOT THE BRONZE MEDAL!

Georgian women’s team got the Bronze Medal, at the 43rd World Chess Olympiad, which was hosted by Batumi Sport Palace from September 24 to October 5. Georgian team won the last match against quite strong team of Armenia – 3:1. Nana Dzagnidze and Lela Javakhishvili won, Nino Batsiashvili and Bela Khotenashvili played a tie. The final result of Georgian team was dependent on the opponents’ games. China ended the last game with a tie with Russia and became a Champion with 18 points. Ukraine also has 18 points. They conceded the championship because of the low additional points.

Georgian team got the Bronze Medal with 17 points. If it wasn’t for the lost points with non-opponent teams, Georgia would have the championship game today, but in the end we got the Bronze Medal, which is not a bad result.

Georgia had 6 teams presented at the Olympiad – 3 women’s team and 3 men’s. The second team of women had 7 wins, 3 failures and 1 tie out of 11 matches. In total, they had 16 points and got the 9th place.

In the last round, Georgian team defeated Czech Republic with 2,5:1,5. Czech Republic made our main team lose the gold point yesterday.

The third team of women lost the game with Iran – 1:3. 6 wins, 4 failures and 1 tie meant 13 points and 41st place.

The men’s team played with Spain in the last round – 2:2 and ended the Olympiad with 14 points – 5 victories, 3 failures, 3 ties and 28th place, which isn’t the best result.

The second team got defeated by Iran – 1,5:2,5. Out of 11 rounds they have 5 victories, 4 failures and 3 ties, which means they are on the 43rd place with 13 points.

The third team defeated Singapore with 2,5:1,5. Young Chess Players ended the Olympiad with 13 points – 6 victories, 1 tie and 4 failures. They are on the 51st place.
